Your Orthodontic Consultation

Your first appointment with us is an exciting time: it’s the first step on the road to a gorgeous new smile! Plan for this appointment to take about an hour, which will provide us ample time to learn more about your orthodontic condition and answer any questions you have. Your consultation will include a brief intake, a thorough diagnostic exam, and a discussion of potential treatment options. In some cases, we may need to schedule more time to take diagnostic records like X-rays and impressions. If we do this for you, expect it to last about an additional hour.

What to Expect at Your First Orthodontic Appointment

During your first appointment, our mission is to help you understand everything about your orthodontic situation and potential treatment options. We’ll take the time to answer any questions you have and we encourage you to ask them, but we’ll be sure to cover all of the following points during your consultation:

  • Do I have an orthodontic condition?
  • What are my potential treatment options?
  • Is now the best time to start treatment or should we wait and monitor growth until the ideal time?
  • Will I need to have any permanent teeth or wisdom teeth extracted?
  • What will treatment cost? What are my financial options?
  • How long will it take?

It’s important to note that during your first appointment, we can only discuss these points generally and provide a good-faith estimate. We won’t be able to make a firm diagnosis and treatment recommendation after an extensive review of your diagnostic materials. After performing that review, we’ll bring you in for a second appointment to discuss treatment options in more detail, choose the ideal treatment plan for you, and get started with treatment.

We know your time is valuable, so we look for every opportunity to expedite treatment and make the process more convenient. Please bring the following information to your first appointment, as having it on-hand will help us expedite the process as much as possible:

  • Any X-rays taken in the past six months
  • Your insurance card or orthodontic insurance information (this will help us estimate your costs)

RE: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

To our valued patients,

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), President Trump, the American Dental Association and the Hawaii Dental Association are recommending all dentists postpone nonemergency dental procedures for 2 weeks. Our practice is committed to protecting the community and avoiding using valuable resources that our first responders and frontline healthcare providers will need.

Our office will be closed effective today, Wednesday, March 18, and we plan to resume regular hours on Wednesday, April 1. If you are experiencing a true dental emergency including swelling or severe tooth pain, please call your general dentist office, and listen closely as emergency contact info will be available. For all nonemergent questions, please email us at [email protected].

We are so sorry for the burden this places on your schedules, but your continued health and safety are our number one priority. Our office is working diligently to reschedule all patients with existing appointments within the next 2 weeks. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine on a weekly basis when it is appropriate for us to return to normal orthodontic patient care. We ask for your compassion and understanding at this time as we all work together to keep Hawaii healthy.

Sincerely,

Your Morita Orthodontics Ohana
