Morita Orthodontics Gives Kids A Smile

At Morita orthodontics, we firmly believe in giving back to the community. This past February, when the Hawaii Dental Association needed someone to lead and organize it’s Give Kids A Smile event, our very own Dr. Scott Morita stepped up to the plate and took charge!

Giving Back to Honolulu

Give Kids A Smile eventThe event was a huge success, and it took place over three days. On February 6th, the official Give Kids A Smile (GKAS) day, we did a special education day at the Institute for Human Services, a local women and children’s shelter. We had a great time educating parents on the importance of dental health for their children, as well as teaching kids the proper methods of brushing and flossing crucial to a healthy smile.

Next, we led a huge promotional push for our final event—we canvassed six local elementary schools with over 10,000 flyers to attract parents and kids to our main GKAS event. We talked to parents, teachers, administrators, and superintendents in an effort to make sure every student knew about our main GKAS day.

For the final and main day of the event, we set up shop at the federally funded Waikiki Makahiki Dental Clinic. The event was open to all children of the community, and we gave kids instruction on proper oral hygiene habits, a free oral examination, a free fluoride treatment, and even a trophy for their hard work! In all, we had 80 volunteers including 30 dentists, and we saw over 100 kids. It was a huge success, and it warmed our hearts to be able to give back to the children of our community.

Notice of Temporary Closure

RE: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

To our valued patients,

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), President Trump, the American Dental Association and the Hawaii Dental Association are recommending all dentists postpone nonemergency dental procedures for 2 weeks. Our practice is committed to protecting the community and avoiding using valuable resources that our first responders and frontline healthcare providers will need.

Our office will be closed effective today, Wednesday, March 18, and we plan to resume regular hours on Wednesday, April 1. If you are experiencing a true dental emergency including swelling or severe tooth pain, please call your general dentist office, and listen closely as emergency contact info will be available. For all nonemergent questions, please email us at [email protected].

We are so sorry for the burden this places on your schedules, but your continued health and safety are our number one priority. Our office is working diligently to reschedule all patients with existing appointments within the next 2 weeks. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine on a weekly basis when it is appropriate for us to return to normal orthodontic patient care. We ask for your compassion and understanding at this time as we all work together to keep Hawaii healthy.

Sincerely,

Your Morita Orthodontics Ohana
