Community & Awareness

Here at Morita Orthodontics, we value the act of spreading awareness for notable causes that you are passionate about. We are proud to be active participants in “Support our Troops” and “Breast Cancer” campaigns. We encourage you to check out and support these causes as well. We also know the importance of giving back to our community, which is why we currently volunteer our time as teaching staff at Queens Medical, Lutheran Medical, and Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center dental residency programs.

Events

Events that we host aim to strengthen our community by bringing everyone together for a day of fun and to spread awareness about causes that will make the community a better place. Check back for information on upcoming events. For more information on operation ‘Give Kids A Smile’ read below:

According to the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, almost one in four children between ages 2 and 11 suffer from untreated cavities in their baby teeth. Many children who are enrolled in Medicaid never receive the dental services they need to treat these cavities and prevent future oral health issues. In response to this growing issue, the American Dental Association crated the national program, Give Kids A Smile (GKAS), which helps these underserved kids by providing them with preventative education & dental services. Dr. Scott’s Lobbying Efforts have resulted in Governor Ige’s signing of a proclamation to recognize February as “Give Kids a Smile Hawaii” Month.

  • Over 800 children at public elementary schools participated in our Give Kids a Smile Oral Hygiene Presentations
  • We treated families from the women’s and children’s shelters at Institute for Human Services and Next-Step Shelter
  • Over 10,000 Flyers were distributed. Radio, newspaper, and TV coverage promoted our program.
  • Over 25 various local sponsors helped raise money or donated in-kind products and services
  • Over 80 Volunteers gave up their Saturday to make a difference in children’s lives on February 21st
  • We treated over 100 children on February 21st with free exams, cleanings, and fluoride

Morita Orthodontics, in association with the Hawaii Dental Association Young Dentist Group, was proud to host a GKAS event, and bring complimentary dental services and education to the children of our own community. Since February was National Children’s Dental Health Month, there’s was no better time to improve the lives of children by helping them find the path to maintaining good oral health.

Notice of Temporary Closure

RE: COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

To our valued patients,

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), President Trump, the American Dental Association and the Hawaii Dental Association are recommending all dentists postpone nonemergency dental procedures for 2 weeks. Our practice is committed to protecting the community and avoiding using valuable resources that our first responders and frontline healthcare providers will need.

Our office will be closed effective today, Wednesday, March 18, and we plan to resume regular hours on Wednesday, April 1. If you are experiencing a true dental emergency including swelling or severe tooth pain, please call your general dentist office, and listen closely as emergency contact info will be available. For all nonemergent questions, please email us at [email protected].

We are so sorry for the burden this places on your schedules, but your continued health and safety are our number one priority. Our office is working diligently to reschedule all patients with existing appointments within the next 2 weeks. We will continue to evaluate the situation as it evolves and determine on a weekly basis when it is appropriate for us to return to normal orthodontic patient care. We ask for your compassion and understanding at this time as we all work together to keep Hawaii healthy.

Sincerely,

Your Morita Orthodontics Ohana
